The Azzard Equation

R=

D

_

M

A simple expression to define the creative value of a thought, act or indeed a whole life.

Attributed to Theo Azzard in the novel Infinite Dream, it states that the reward for creation is calculated by dividing what is done by what can be done:

D = Deeds - i.e. what is done. In the novel, this calculation is given a moral polarity, that is a deed is either morally positive (creative) or negative (destructive).

M = Means. A more complex idea of the potential for deeds. The greater the person's status, power or talent, the higher the number. Thus, for example, a rich & powerful person must do much more to achieve the same score as someone who is, for example, disabled or disadvantaged.
