Law & Finance Expert

We are looking for one or more volunteer experts to bolster the design and development of the Lodestar not-for-profit enterprise with the required framework of compliance & protection.

The Lodestar Enterprise is conceived to be an international organisation making extensive use of volunteer labour and third party financial backing. It will hold its intellectual property collectively for the sole purpose of delivering the Lodestar goals and must be protected against commercialisation. The Law & Finance Expert will oversee the design and implementation of the necessary policies, processes & controls to ensure the enterprise is a robust, transparent and trustworthy vessel for all who invest time, money or services in her.

As with all the Lodestar roles, the potholder is encouraged to broaden and develop the role in-situ provided this enhances delivery and team spirit

The goal of this role is to establish the most efficient, trustworthy and robust enterprise for delivering the Lodestar application & services.

This includes all roles, structures and core processes required.

Your Attributes

Skills & Knowledge

You must understand how large, international not-for-profit organizations work. You must be especially knowledgeable of how to implement appropriate controls and protection of funding, staffing, intellectual property and general business conduct.

You should have a deep understanding of the balancing of legal rigour with the need to operate fluidly in a creative environment.

Track Record

You must be able to demonstrate experience of a leading legal role in at least one large international not-for-profit enterprise. This should include the introduction from scratch of the required legal and compliance policies and processes.

You should be able to show how you have achieved this with the lightest touch.

Workstyle

You should be happy working in a virtual environment with internationally dispersed teams in different time zones. You should be comfortable working across multiple cultures & ethnicities and be a keen team player.

You should be able to deliver your role with flexibility & pragmatism without compromising fundamental legal requirements.

Practicalities

This role is one of the very first wave of Lodestar appointments. This means the appointed person(s) must be prepared to work as a volunteer and cover their own expenses, at least initially. Once the Lodestar backers are in place, it should be possible to reimburse legitimate expenses, some of which can be retrospective if required.
